Breaking his silence for the first time ever since he took charge, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday countered the stand taken by former Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
Kiran Kumar Reddy asserted that his government was not depending on the mercy of anyone. This outburst comes in the wake of Jagan's claim in New Delhi recently that the Andhra Pradesh government was at his mercy.
Kiran Kumar Reddy also stated that his government would last till 2014 and would return to power after the 2014 elections in AP.
Reacting sharply against MLAs who deserted the Congress to side with the Jagan, Kiran Kumar Reddy said that these MLAs were elected on the Congress ticket and symbol and that they had no right to speak, especially after switching sides. They must resign from their seats before making any comments, the CM said.
Kiran Kumar Reddy also stated that former Jagan's father, Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, grew in stature because of the encouragement he received from Congress president Sonia Gandhi. He said YSR had never challenged the high command even when he had differences with the party regarding the governance in Andhra Pradesh.
Kiran Kumar Reddy pointed out that YSR was made APCC president twice, and chief minister twice. The Congress Legislature party had unanimously elected him as their leader at the behest of the high command. The Congress president also helped him become CLP leader earlier, the chief minister said. Also, all those who were elected as MLAs or MPs during the 2004 or 2009 elections were elected only at the mercy of the Congress high command, he said.
He pointed out that YSR and his followers had worked for the Congress party for 20 to 30 years and were elected because of the Congress high command.
Those who were commenting on the Congress, he said, indirectly referring to Jagan, were new to politics and they did not figure anywhere earlier.
