Hyderabad | 11th February 2021
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao today extended his congratulations to the newly-elected GHMC Mayor and Deputy Mayor, both TRS corporators, and expressed his hope that they would use their time in office to truly work towards the development of the state capital.

Speaking at a meeting of the newly elected Mayor, Gadwal Vijayalakshmi, Deputy Mayor, Srilatha Reddy, and corporators at the Pragathi Bhavan, the CM asked them to strive to enhance the image and greatness of Hyderabad, which he called a "true global city", where people from different regions and cultures lived peacefully together.

"Among crores of citizens, only a fortunate handful get the chance to become public representatives. It is important that you realise the greatness of your responsibility, and utilise the chance you have been given to work for the people you have been appointed to represent. You have to work very hard and remain upright public representatives. You must not give anyone even the smallest chance to level any charges against you. Remember to act with caution, and work sincerely," he told them.

"Those in power should act with patience, maintain composure, and remain grounded. There should not be any change in your attire, language or behaviour. If you indulge in unnecessary and irrelevant talk, you will not gain anything. You may, in fact, find yourself in trouble. Hence, speak carefully, and always maintain the dignity of the posts you hold. Do not discriminate against the people who come to you on the basis of their caste or religion. Comfort them and take care of them, treat them with due respect, listen to them patiently, and help them as much as possible. Make a committed effort to solve the problems of the residents of the city," he added.

KCR also asked the newly-elected officials and the newly sworn-in corporators to remember who they had to work for.

“Listen to Goreti Venkanna’s song, ‘Galli Chinnadi Garibolla Katha Peddadi' (the street is narrow, but the problems of the poor big). I have listened to it more than a hundred times. The welfare of the poor and disadvantaged should always be your priority. You must visit the bastis to understand the plight of the people there. Come to the rescue of the poor. This should be your main aim and objective," the CM said.

TRS Parliamentary Party Leader K Keshav Rao, Rajya Sabha Members K R Suresh Reddy and Santosh Kumar, ministers T Srinivas Yadav, Mohammad Mahmood Ali and Indrakaran Reddy, and Deputy Speaker Padma Rao Goud were among the other officials present at the meeting.
