Prominent personalities, including ministers, called on Governor E S L Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday, to greet him on the occasion of Diwali.
The dignitaries included Union Tourism Minister K Chiranjeevi, cabinet ministers - C Ramchandraiah, Dr. J Geetha Reddy - and City Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma.
However, several leaders, including Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu, did not celebrate the festival, in order to express their solidarity with the victims of cyclone Nilam. The Chief Minister had also advised people not to visit him to extend their greetings.
Naidu, whose "Vastunna Mee Kosam" padayatra entered its sixth day in Ranga Reddy district on Tuesday, also stayed away from Diwali celebrations. However, while addressing a meeting at Puduru mandal, he extended his Diwali greetings to the crowd. (INN)
