CM's Remarks Against BRS Women MLAs Create Ruckus In Assembly

Revanth Reddy called Sabitha Indra Reddy and Sunitha Laxma Reddy cheaters, resulting in a furore among the BRS MLAs.
Hyderabad | 31st July 2024
Ruckus prevailed in the Telangana Assembly today following CM Revanth Reddy's remarks against two BRS women MLAs - Sabitha Indra Reddy and Sunitha Laxma Reddy - forcing Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar to adjourn the House for some time.

During the discussion on the Budget Appropriation Bill in the Assembly, BRS MLA K T Rama Rao raised various issues and made a few suggestions to the government.

However, intervening at a juncture, the CM told KTR not to believe some leaders who had joined the BRS from other parties, and the latter had a habit of cheating the leaders.

"Do not especially believe the sisters behind you, else you will have to sit at the Jubilee Bus Station," Reddy said, hinting at former ministers Sabitha Indra Reddy and Sunitha Laxma Reddy who were sitting behind KTR.

Taking serious objection to Revanth Reddy's comments, BRS MLAs rose from their seats and approached the well, shouting slogans against him.

Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka and Legislative Affairs Minister Sridhar Babu defended the CM's words. However, with the BRS MLAs continuing to raise slogans, the Assembly Speaker adjourned the House for some time.

The session restarted at 3:30 pm, but the BRS MLAs continued their sloganeering insisting that Sabitha Indra Reddy be given a chance to speak. The Speaker gave a chance to Congress MLA Vivek. The BRS MLAs however went to the Speaker's podium and continued the previous protests against the remarks of the Chief Minister.

Finally, the Speaker, unwilling to give the mike to Sabitha, simply allowed the passing of the Budget Appropriation Bill and announced that the session was adjourned to Thursday.

In a chit chat with media persons in the Assembly, Revanth Reddy said that he had told KTR in the Assembly that he was deceived by believing the "sisters" Sabitha Indra Reddy and Sunitha Laxma Reddy who had previously worked as ministers in the Congress governments in the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh and had later joined the BRS. He however added that he did not even mention their names in the House.

"I considered Sabitha Indra Reddy a sister, and on her suggestion I joined the Congress. But after the Assembly elections in 2018, she first goaded me to be the Congress' Malkajgiri Lok Sabha candidate for the 2019 elections, and said that she would work for my victory, but immediately upon my becoming the candidate, she joined the ruling BRS and worked against me," he explained.

"Similarly, when I went to campaign for Sunitha Laxma Reddy in the Narsapur Assembly constituency in the 2018 elections, two cases were filed against me. The cases are still pending in Kaudipalli and Narsapur. She took the Women's Commission post and later became an MLA. Both sisters deceived someone like me who considered them a brother," Reddy said.

He also added that there was nothing unparliamentary in what he spoke in the House, and that he didn't say a single rude word against either one of the two MLAs.
