HMDA Metropolitan Commissioner Neerabh Kumar Prasad, IAS, inaugurated the distribution of clay Ganesha idols, in the presence of Akkineni Amala. This was part of a VIP campaign for the "Clean Hussain Sagar & Member Environment", and the event was held at Lumbini Park in Hyderabad.
Addressing the media, Kumar said, "We will continue our campaign to achieve our goal of 'Clean Hussain Sagar & Member Environment'. Amala has appealed to the denizens of Hyderabad to use small clay Ganesha idols and dispose of them in homes so that the clay can be useful in gardening. This way, the Hussain Sagar will be spared from getting polluted further."
"The environment has deteriorated a lot, and it is our collective responsibility to save it," said Amala.
HMDA is making available 8-inch Ganesha idols at Rs. 12.50 each, and 3-feet idols at Rs. 1,500 each, after a 50% subsidy on both the categories.
Individual users can register online on the HMDA website (www.hmda.gov.in) and procure the idols, for which 25 distribution centres have been set up across the city. The distribution of idols will continue till September 8 at these centres.
Apart from the above, HMDA is also conducting a program on September 8 at People's Plaza, where people can paint their idols with natural colours to be supplied by the College Of Home Science, free of cost. This activity is to promote the usage of natural colours. (INN)
