CI, SI, Home Guard of Banjara Hills Police Station In ACB Net

A case of criminal misconduct was registered today against M Narender, CI; S Naveen Reddy, SI; and Sri Hari, home guard; of the Banjara Hills Police Station.

According to the Anti-Corruption Bureau, on June 18, Circle Inspector M Narender demanded a bribe of Rs 4.5 lakh from complainant Neela Rajeshwar Lakshman Rao, Managing Partner of Rock Club Sky Lounge in Banjara Hills, for letting him run the pub without police harassment (he later reduced his bribe demand to Rs 3,00,000). The demand was made through home guard Hari. In addition, Hari himself also demanded Rs 10,000 for himself.

Hari reportedly made several Whatsapp calls to Rao for the bribe amount. When Rao failed to fulfil the demand, the CI started harassing him by registering a false case against him with the assistance of the SI.

In the intervening midnight of September 30 - October 1, on the instructions of the CI and the SI, the home guard went to the pub, called Rao out and took him to the Banjara Hills Police Station, where Rao was detained for hours.

Rao then approached the ACB and filed a complaint. After conducting a preliminary verification, a case was registered against the accused officers, and the investigation was on.

The ACB has appealed to the people to call toll free no 1064 in case of demands of bribes by any public servants, for taking action as per the law.
