Rajya Sabha Congress MP and actor K Chiranjeevi asked the Andhra Pradesh government why it had evicted scavengers living in Ward No 18 in Tirupati.
In a letter addressed to the AP government on Monday, Chiranjeevi criticized the state government's action of evicting the scavengers who had been living in the ward for the last 70 years.
He also alleged that the Tirupati Municipal Corporation did not want a scavengers' habitat in Tirupati, and also faulted the municipality for allotting the same land to private persons by dislodging the sanitation workers.
Chiranjeevi claimed that he had taken up several developmental activities when he was the MLA of Tirupati, and lamented that he was now not in a position to stop atrocities in the Assembly constituency like the evictions of the scavengers and Yanadi caste people.
