Raj Bhavan was the centre of attraction for school children today in Hyderabad. As many as 600 children drawn from various schools in Hyderabad gathered there as part of the Children's Day celebrations, and Governor E S L Narasimhan greeted them.
The Governor moved freely among the children and school teachers and wished the kids success in pursuit of their studies. He enjoyed the rhymes recited by many tiny tots.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor underlined the importance of imparting quality education to children. Educational institutions, he said, must be developed as "Saraswati Nilayams" (abodes of Saraswati, the goddess of education) rather than as "Lakshmi Nilayams" (metaphorically, repositories of money). However, these days many entrepreneurs were setting up educational institutions to make money, which needed to be checked, he said.
Earlier, elaborate arrangements were made for the children's festival at Durbar Hall. Special exhibitions to educate the children were organized by the Birla Planetarium, the Hyderabad Traffic Police and the Nehru Zoological Park authorities, which the children enjoyed.
The Governor showed keen interest in the city traffic models and the Birla science museum models. He appreciated the efforts of the city traffic police, and felt that more such exhibitions should be organized, particularly in educational institutions, to make the youth aware of traffic discipline.
City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy took the children around the various exhibits, and explained to them the user-friendly mobile apps introduced by the city police.
