Hyderabad | 27th April 2013
Chief Secretary Minnie Mathew, on Saturday, conducted a Special Task Force (STF) meeting, and reviewed the progress of works pertaining to the Right of Way (RoW) and the shifting of utilities for the Hyderabad Metro Rail project.

Appreciating the "speedy progress" of the Metro Rail works in different parts of the city, the Chief Secretary highlighted the need for also shifting utilities like water lines, sewer lines, electrical overhead lines/underground cables, electrical poles, street lights and advertisement boards etc., as well as restoring roads to a good condition.

Making a detailed presentation, HMR Managing Director N V S Reddy informed the CS that in the last one year, L&T had completed laying foundations in 17.5 km (665 foundations); pillars (piers) in 14 km (550 pillars); cast viaduct segments sufficient for covering 8 km (2700 segments); and viaduct formations in 3 km (100 spans).

He also told her that after the last review meeting about 25 days ago, new work fronts have been given to L&T, and that barrication was done in S R Nagar, Punjagutta, Jubilee Hills Check Post, Rasoolpura and Nampally.

The Chief Secretary issued her officials instructions based on his presentation. She said that road-cutting must be permitted by NH between ESI Hospital and S R Nagar for the shifting of water pipelines; that at 7 locations at MGBS and Dilsukhnagar, 11 KV overhead electrical crossings must be converted to underground cabling; and that water lines at Moosarambagh, Dilsukhnagar and Paradise circle must be shifted.

The Roads And Buildings Department has been asked to give its permission for road-cutting at Alugaddabavi and between Secunderabad and Keyes High School for the shifting of water lines; between Alugaddabavi and Chilkalguda, and at Chaderghat, to convert overhead electrical lines to underground cabling.

The Cantonment Board was asked to permit road-cutting at about 2 km behind Parade Grounds, to divert the water pipeline from Marredpally to Paradise.

The APCPDCL was asked to expedite the furnishing of estimates for the shifting of 820 electrical poles, 138 distribution transformers and about 100 other electrical installations in 41 different locations in the 3 Metro Rail corridors.

The APTRANSCO was asked to complete the conversion of overhead high tension electrical lines into underground cabling at Miyapur, JNTU, Kukatpally and Bharat Nagar by the end of June this year.

The Water Board has been asked to speed up the ongoing shifting of water lines and sewer lines, and to expedite its estimates for the shifting of 9 water lines and 4 sewer lines at different locations in Metro Rail corridors.

"The GHMC will remove/provide necessary support to remove 98 advertisement boards and lollypops; and shift/support shifting of 522 street light poles, 157 bus shelters and 49 traffic signal posts," she said.

Continuous joint inspections will be conducted by the HMR, the GHMC, utility organizations, the Traffic Police and L&T MRHL to sort out the "right of way" and utility-shifting issues for the progress of Metro Rail works, and to enable smooth traffic flow in related areas.

R&B Principal Secretary S P Singh, MA & UD Principal Secretary B Sam Bob, GHMC Commissioner M T Krishna Babu, EnC R&B (NH) K Siva Reddy and other senior officers and engineers of HMR, Hyderabad Traffic Police, APCPDCL, APTRANSCO, the Water Board, Defence and L&T MRHL participated in the meeting.
