The proposed changes in the alignment of the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) route are likely to extend the Metro Rail Project by an approximate 3.2 km on one of the corridors.
According to HMR Managing Director N V S Reddy, the realignment of the route at the Telangana Legislative Assembly and at Sultan Bazar on Corridor-I, and between MGBS and Falaknum on Corridor-II would extend the route by nearly 3.2 kilometres.
The Corridor-II connects Secunderabad to Falakuma covering a distance of 15 kms.
While no major difference in distance is expected due to the changes in alignment at Assembly and Sultan Bazar, the change of alignment between MGBS and Falaknuma would increase the distance by 3.2 km, Redy said.
Following objections raised by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on the original route map, the L&TMRH has agreed to change the alignments on certain routes. A technical and financial feasibility report is being prepared to implement the project with the changes in alignment.
The State Government has offered to compensate for the additional costs that the L&TMRH will incur due to the change in alignments.
The Chief Minister had earlier assured the Telangana Assembly that he would convene an all-Party meeting to discuss the proposed changes in the 72-km elevated metro project being developed by L&T with three corridors and 66 stations. (INN)
