The Congress has criticized TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu's padayatra as a political stunt.
On Thursday, the Congress said that Naidu took up the padayatra only in an effort to keep his party afloat.
Minister for Civil Supplies and Legislative Affairs D Sridhar Babu slammed Naidu for what he deemed as Naidu's last attempt to show the presence of the TDP in the region.
?The padayatra is only to protect his selfish interests. Naidu is shedding crocodile tears in the name of the farmers' cause... Naidu's commitment to the farmers' cause has always been questionable, and his past record shows his commitment, or the lack of it, on farmers' issues... The TDP leader took out a padayatra only to protect his party, which is on the verge of extinction due to its ambivalent stand on the Telangana issue," he said.
He added that the Telangana Congress leaders have been mounting pressure on the High Command to take a favourable decision on the statehood issue.
He said that if Naidu has any commitment to Telangana, he must pen a letter to the Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, stating that the TDP has no objection to the formation of a Telangana state.
He stated that both the Telugu Desam Telangana Forum and the TRS have an unclear stand on the Telangana issue. (INN)
