A meeting of NDA leaders - BJP and NDA MPs - was held at Parliament House in Delhi today.
The TDP, JD(S), NCP, Jana Sena and Apna Dal MPs and leaders participated in the meeting. A unanimous resolution was passed in the meeting that Narendra Modi would be the leader of the alliance.
Addressing the gathering, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu heaped praise on Modi. He said that under Modi's leadership India had become a global powerhouse.
"I have seen many leaders in my political career. But I haven't seen a person as powerful as Narendra Modi. Modi with his Make In India program has become a visionary leader, and enhanced the country's image at the international level. Under Modi's leadership, India has become the fifth largest economy in the world, and will become the second or third largest in five years if he continues. Modi's services are very much needed by the country," he said.
"We are proposing Narendra Modi as the NDA's prime ministerial candidate. In the general elections, we won 95% of the Assembly seats in AP. The TDP, the Jana Sena and the BJP worked together and achieved this victory. Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan's role in the election victory is unmatched. We also worked with BJP State president Purandeswari," he said.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made special mention of Pawan Kalyan in the NDA meeting. He said that Pawan Kalyan was a tsunami. He also said that the people of AP had fully supported the alliance in the general elections.
The TDP won 135 Assembly seats, the Jana Sena 21, the YSRCP 11 and BJP eight in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, of the 175 seats. The TDP thus secured a huge majority to form the government. TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu will take oath as the AP CM on the 12th of this month.
