Central Water Commission (CWC) Chief Engineer C K L Das today expressed his satisfaction at the works being taken up on the Kaleshwaram project and heaped praises on it by calling it a special project in the nation's history thanks to it being a lifeline to the people of North Telangana, and a "miracle".
Addressing the media at the Jala Saudha after a two-day official visit to the project, Das said that the commission was impressed with the pace at which the works were being carried out on the project, which would cross its first milestone by the next monsoon season in June. He further said that a project like Kaleshwaram had never been seen at the national level earlier, and that the works taken up were at par with international standards.
The CWC chief engineer said that Kaleshwaram was being constructed as an integrated and multi-purpose project that would cater to the irrigation needs of water-deficit North Telangana. Upon its completion, a whopping 18 lakh acres of land in the region would be stabilized and irrigated, he noted. He also said that the project was significant because the Mid Maner dam, the SRSP Flood Flow Canal and other irrigation projects in the region would be dependent on its proper functioning.
Lauding the state government in its effort to see the project through, he made special mention of the coordinated team work, construction of structures, plan, and speed of the works being carried out by having workers work on the project in three shifts. He expressed confidence that the government would reach its goal of completing the project on time if the present pace of works were to continue, and exhorted the officials attached to the project to execute the project as per schedule and before estimation costs increased.
CWC Hydrology Director Nityananda Roy, too, said that once the project was up and running, there would be no problem of water availability in Medigadda. He also expressed hope that the Kaleshwaram project would soon become part of the national development projects.
Irrigation Special Chief Secretary S K Joshi lauded Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and state Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao for continuously monitoring the project.
