The Election Commission of India today released the schedule for the by-election to the Palair Assembly constituency in Telangana's Khammam district. The by-election will be held on May 16.
This seat fell vacant following the death of the Congress MLA Ramreddy Venkat Reddy.
According to the schedule, the notification for the by-election will be issued on April 22. Nominations can be filed from April 22, and the last date for the filing of the nominations will be April 29. The scrutiny of papers will be on April 30, and May 2 will be the date for withdrawal of nominations.
Elections will be held on May 16, and the counting of votes will be on May 19.
The Model Code of Conduct will come into force with immediate effect in the Khammam district, in which the whole Assembly constituency is included, subject to partial modification as issued vide Commission's instruction No. 437/INST/2012/CC&BE, dated 26th April, 2012.
The Model Code of Conduct will be applicable to all candidates and political parties concerned, as also to the State government. The Model Code of Conduct will also be applicable to the Union government for the State concerned.
