Wonders will never cease. Taking the Palair Assembly by-election as a prestige issue for his Party, Telangana PCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy today called Telangana TDP chief L Ramana and urged the latter to extend his Party's support to the Congress candidate.
Old-timers will know that the whole raison d'etre of the TDP when it was formed in 1983 by late N T Rama Rao was to fight the Congress. So here's another example of politics making for strange bed-fellows. The Congress' pitch to the TDP may have been that since the latter's chances of winning are pretty much nil, they may as well gang up to halt the TRS juggernaut.
Responding to the request made by Reddy, Ramana said that he would disclose his Party's decision only after discussing with the Party's president Chandrababu Naidu.
The Palair Assembly constituency fell vacant after the death of Ramreddy Venkat Reddy. The Election Commission of India announced the dates of the by-election two days back.
