Telangana TDP working president A Revanth Reddy today said that his Party president Chandrababu Naidu had given him a free hand to select the TDP candidate for the Palair Assembly constituency election, and that a final decision would be taken on contesting the Palair by-election after consulting with all the leaders.
Telangana TDP leaders today called upon Naidu and held consultations for the selection of the candidate for the Palair by-election scheduled to be held on May 16. Along with Revanth Reddy, TTDP president L Ramana, former MP Nama Nageshwar Rao and MLA Sandra Venkataveeraiah attended the meeting. Senior leader Motkupally Narasimhulu did not attend the meeting.
"At the time of the Narayankhed by-election the Congress did not consult us, and all Parties contested those elections. But this time the Congress has approached us. And the CPI and the YSRCP have informed that they are not going to contest the election," he added.
Reddy said that the party had two options: contesting, or not contesting in support of the family of the Congress MLA who died recently. However, the Khammam district leaders were in favor of the candidature of former MP Nama Nageshwara Rao for the by-elections.
Stating that votes and seats were not important for the TDP, he said that his Party always strove to serve the people. He added that a final decision would be taken on Sunday.
