City police on Friday arrested the prime suspect in the sensational murder case of a 20-year-old student on September 19th at Vanasthalipuram.
According to police, Sekhar Goud was arrested at the Nampally railway station after he alighted from a train from Mumbai on charges of bludgeoning his junior Divya last Sunday.
Sekhar is believed to have run away to Mumbai after committing the brutal murder.
Sekhar is alleged to have smashed Divya's head after she 'betrayed' his love and started seeing another boy.
After committing the murder, Sekhar sent a text message on the mobile phone of Divya's friend Pradeep, confessing to the crime, and also mentioned that he was contemplating suicide himself.
An alarmed Pradeep had immediately alerted the police who rushed to Sekhar's flat at Vanasthalipuram to witness the gory scene.
The sight of the Vignan Engineering College student, with her head smashed by a baseball bat, was described as 'gory' by even hardened policemen.
A manhunt was launched to trace and apprehend Sekhar and the police also piled pressure on his relatives. This had the desired effect, since Sekhar finally arrived in the city on Friday.
Sekhar told the policemen after his arrest that he had run off to Mumbai where his parents lived. Sekhar also said that the police pressure on his relatives had made him return.
