The BRS today filed two petitions in the Supreme Court, challenging the delay in disqualifying its 10 MLAs who had defected to the ruling Congress.
A Special Leave Petition (SLP) was filed against three of the rebel MLAs, Kadiyam Srihari, Tellam Venkatarao and Danam Nagender.
A writ petition was submitted against the remaining seven defectors - Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Kale Yadaiah, Dr Sanjay, Arikepudi Gandhi, Prakash Goud, Mahipal Reddy and Krishna Mohan Reddy.
In its petition, the BRS informed the court that despite receiving a complaint against the 10 MLAs nine months ago, the Assembly Speaker had not taken any action.
The Speaker had not issued a single notice to the rebel MLAs, the BRS said.
It referred to a Supreme Court directive from the Megha Chandra case, which mandated that Speakers decide on such complaints within three months, and argued that Telangana Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar had failed to act in accordance with this precedent.
The party urged the court to enforce the judgment in the Kesam Megha Chandra case and direct the Speaker to decide on the matter within four weeks.
