Lok Satta Party founder Dr Jayaprakash Narayan on Tuesday stressed the need for the computerisation of gram panchayats in the state.
Talking to repoters after attending a meeting of the Committee of Subordinate Legislation in the Legislative Assembly premises, Dr JP said that the records of properties of villages in the state were being misplaced. He said that there were about 22,000 gram panchayats in the state, and they were unable to protect the records due to inadequate staff. Therefore, he said that the computerisation of gram panchayats would help protect records in the villages.
Dr JP also alleged that there were several irregularities in the implementation of the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in the state. Demanding a high-level enquiry, he said that there were several instances where funds were released without the execution of works. Stating that the rural unemployment was at its peak in Mahabubnagar, Anantapur and Warangal districts, he said that poor people were unable to enjoy the benefits of the NREGS schemes.
Regarding the power crisis, Dr JP claimed that, about 1.76 lakh transformers in the state don't have proper metering. He further said that the government was not getting adequate energy supply from neighbouring states. He demanded that Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh convene a meeting to discuss the energy issue at the national level. (INN)
