The 6 accused were rag-pickers by day and thieves by night, and confess to have burgled 15 homes.
The Bolarum Police arrested a 6-member gang accused of habitual house-burglaries, and seized 460 grams of gold ornaments and around 2.5 kgs of silver ornaments, worth Rs. 14.20 lakh together, from its members.
According to the police, the gang members were apprehended when they were moving around Alwal railway station near the Bolarum Rythu Bazar on Sunday to sell the stolen property.
The accused have been identified as Dekkali Sangam Arjun, Jakkula Durga, Poojarola Durga, Poojarolla Yesu Raju, Pujari Prathap and Pujari Srikanth, all residents of Tukaramgate in Secunderabad.
On interrogation, the 6 accused reportedly confessed to have committed 15 house burglaries in various police station limits - Bolarum, Begumpet, Trimulgherry, Marredpally, Tukaramgate and Bowenpally of North Zone, Hyderabad City.
According to the police, the six accused are childhood friends, all rag-pickers and poster-vendors. The police say they took to stealing in order to be able to spend money on alcohol, smoking and related vices.
They even went to jail on several occasions, from various police stations of Secunderabad. However, each time they were released, they would immediately resume robbing homes.
They would go to residential colonies in the guise of garbage pickers during the day, to identify locked houses, and rob these homes during the night.
North Zone DCP Ch Srikanth appreciated the work done by Bolarum inspector T Laxminarayana, with the assistance of sub-inspectors N Sanjay Kumar and S Chennaiah, head constable K B N Chary and constables S Srinivas and K Anil Kumar. He also said that the police team would be suitably rewarded. (INN)
