BJP leader and former minister Etala Rajender, who has been receiving treatment at the Jubilee Hills-based Apollo Hospital for the past couple of days, today underwent a knee surgery at a hospital in Hyderabad.
His doctors who conducted a host of tests on him recommended that he undergo the surgery.
The leader will now remain under the observation of the doctors for a period of seventeen days. He will then take a decision on the continuation of his now-suspended padayatra after seeking the opinion of his doctors.
Rajender had launched the padayatra on July 19 from Battivaanipalli of Warangal urban district's Kamalapur mandal. The march went on for 12 days. However, the former minsiter
fell ill while addressing a meeting at Veenavanka mandal Kondapaka village, in Huzurabad district, last Friday. He was then rushed to Apollo. The doctors had reportedly found that his oxygen and blood pressure levels had fallen while his blood sugar levels had spiked.
Although Rajender's supporters had been hoping that he would resume his padayatra in the next few days, it seems like they will now have to wait till the leader fully recuperates from the surgery.
During his stay in hospital, various BJP leaders have been calling on him - while Telangana BJP head Bandi Sanjay Kumar and former MP Vivek Venkataswami had visited him on July 31, MLAs M Raghunandan Rao and T Raja Singh
met him yesterday.
