The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday sought the de-recognition of the Congress party's symbol, the 'hand', for the forthcoming Telangana by-elections.
Talking to media persons, senior BJP leader and former Union Minister Ch Vidyasagar Rao said that the EC should bar the symbol 'hand' from at least the Nizamabad Urban constituency.
The senior leader said that PCC chief and Nizamabad Urban candidate D Srinivas has been issued show cause notices twice and censured one time so far. He said that the EC should not be satisfied by this action but go ahead and bar the Congress party symbol for the elections as a punishment under Section 16-A.
Vidyasagar said that the issuance of show cause notices twice was by itself proof enough of violation of the Model Code Of Conduct by D Srinivas.
The senior BJP leader also alleged that the PCC president had tried to influence voters and members of the Srikrishna Committee in the name of caste.
