The Bharatiya Janata Party told the government, on Sunday, to quit talking and get to work on solving the issue of shortage of fertilisers to farmers.
Talking to media persons, party spokesman N V S S Prasad said that the government was neglecting the plight of farmers by making statement after statement, instead of taking action and supplying fertilisers to farmers, particularly in the 12 districts where the scarcity was most acute.
The BJP spokesman also ridiculed statements by Agriculture Minister Raghuveera Reddy that there was no shortage of fertilisers in the state. Prasad wondered about the unrest among the farmers if there was no shortage of fertilisers, especially after the good rainfall received.
Prasad charged that if Raghuveera Reddy's statements were true then the fertilisers were being diverted to mixing plants owned by bigwigs to create and artificial scarcity.
The BJP leader also said that the entire fertiliser shortage issue was a huge scam worth hundreds of crores of rupees, and said that he suspected Raghuveera Reddy to be involved in the scam.
