BJP spokesperson Krishna Saagar Rao today strongly objected to the demand by M Kodandaram to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for implementing 12% reservations to Muslims.
He also demanded that Kodandaram clarify whether his demand was a collective decision of the JAC or a unilateral decision of his own.
In a media statement on Tuesday, the BJP leader pointed out that the Indian Constitution clearly opposed religion-based reservations, and that the Supreme Court had also clearly ruled against any such provision by either the Central or any State governments.
KCR's promise of 12% reservation for Muslims was merely an election ploy, he claimed. It was fake, illegal and unconstitutional, and impossible to implement.
"Everyone knows that it is a political ploy for Muslim votes. The BJP believes that his reservation gimmick amounts to explicitly cheating the Muslims of Telangana through false promises. The BJP wants our Muslim brothers and sisters to see through this selfish antic of the TRS and the CM KCR," he said.
He said that the BJP respected Kodandaram for being apolitical and an intellectual fighting for the development and welfare of Telangana. However, Kodandaram should not toe the line of KCR where this "false promise" was concerned, he said, and added that the BJP would oppose and resist any initiatives by either Kodandaram or the TJAC in regard to this demand.
