BJP Elevates D K Aruna, Purandeswari, Laxman

In a balancing act of sorts among the Reddy and BC communities, and to strengthen itself in the Telugu states, the BJP national leadership has picked noted party leaders from the states for top posts.

Former ministers from the two Telugu states D K Aruna and D Purandeswari have been promoted to the national level by BJP national president J P Nadda - Aruna has been made a party Vice President, and Purandeshwari a party General Secretary.

Also, former BJP Telangana president Dr K Laxman has been promoted as the national BC Morcha president.

There is a talk in BJP circles of two more Telugu leaders, Muralidhar Rao and Ram Madhav, also being promoted. The party reportedly plans to give Rajya Sabha seats to both, and to elevate one of them to a post in the union cabinet.

The moves indicate the BJP national leaders' plan to strengthen the party in the Telugu states to enable it to come to power in the 2023 elections. Prominent BJP leader from Telangana G Kishan Reddy has already been elevated to the union Minister of State for Home Affairs post.

Aruna extended her thanks to PM Narendra Modi and Nadda for the new assignment. She vowed to discharge her duties ably to enable the BJP to come to power in the Telugu states. Laxman and Purandeswari also echoed similar sentiments.
