Telangana BJP President K Laxman today attributed the rapes and atrocities on women and girls in the State to liquor sales.
He demanded that the government ban liquor to protect the lives of people.
Inaugurating a two-day protest at Indira Park by BJP leader D K Aruna against liquor sales in the State, Laxman accused Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao of promoting a club and pub culture that was destroying families.
The State was being turned into a liquor zone, he claimed. The State government was earning Rs 980 crore through tenders and Rs 20,000 crore in tax revenue from alcohol, and that was turning it blind to the repercussions for ordinary people, he claimed.
Aruna, too, charged the KCR government with neglecting to check the alcohol menace. The women in the State were totally against liquor sale and consumption, and many rape cases were a result of liquor sale, she claimed. She too demanded that the State government take steps to ban liquor, and praised the AP government for its tough steps to control liquor sale.
