As a part of the BJP's push for celebrating Telangana Liberation Day, Union Minister for Labour & Employment Bandaru Dattatreya today slammed Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for not officializing Telangana's struggle against the Nizam rule.
Dattatreya, who spoke at the unveiling ceremony of the Sardar Patel statue at Ramanathpur, asked Telangana student unions to write letters to the CM urging him to officialize September 17 as Hyderabad Liberation Day.
The CPI, too, joined the push and alleged that this was part of a conspiracy led by the Telangana government to hide the truth about the State's armed struggle and the sacrifices made by the Indian Army, from the people of the State and the nation.
CPI State Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy said that 1948 was the year when 225 years of subjugation were put to an end by Telangana's freedom fighters and the Indian Army under Operation Polo.
"It is sad that the KCR cannot recognize a day of historic significance," he lamented, and demanded that the CM apologize to the people of Telangana for this.
