Telangana BJP President N Ramchander Rao today said that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had indirectly admitted his government's failure to implement 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) while addressing a dharna in Delhi.
Rao made this statement while addressing a meeting at Bhongir where around 500 party workers had arrived in a bike rally from Yadagirigutta.
He thanked the party leaders and workers for the grand welcome accorded to him, calling the enthusiastic reception a sign that the BJP would succeed in the upcoming local body elections.
Taking a jibe at Reddy's statement that BC reservations would be implemented after Rahul Gandhi becomes Prime Minister, Rao asked the crowd whether they believed Gandhi would ever become PM. The audience reportedly responded with a loud chorus of "no, no".
He also said that Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra did not attend the Delhi dharna of the Telangana Congress because they knew it would be a flop show.
Rao alleged that the Congress had no real intent to implement the promised 42% BC reservation in Telangana, and called the Delhi protest a Muslim reservation dharna aimed at deceiving the BC community.
The BJP leader then claimed that if voted to power his party would implement the full 42% reservation exclusively for the backward classes, in Telangana.
He claimed that the BJP was the only party that had genuinely worked for the upliftment of the BC community, and said that the party had made a BC leader, Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister, given the BC Commission constitutional status, and made 27 BCs ministers in Modi's cabinet.
Rao also criticised the Congress government's failure to address the Musi river pollution, which he said had become a curse for Bhongir's farmers. He recalled that Revanth Reddy had promised to clean the river during his birthday visit to Yadadri temple, but had since forgotten his commitment.
