Congress leader and Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy today called on Union Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy at the national capital and urged the latter to sanction funds for the development of the Bhongir fort as a heritage site.
He submitted a representation to the minister on the issue. In it, he told the latter that the fort had a rich history, and added that the minister too was aware of the prominence of the fort as he was from Telangana himself.
Alleging that the TRS government was not taking any steps for the preservation and development of the fort or of other similar sites, the MP stated that several such historic structures in Telangana stood on the brink of destruction as they had been neglected by the government.
During his meeting with the leader, Venkat Reddy also congratulated Kishan Reddy on his
recent promotion from the post of union minister of state to a Cabinet minister.
He then urged the BJP leader to introduce new policies for the benefit of the country's tourism sector.
Kishan Reddy has reportedly responded positively to the request of the MP, and has assured the latter that he will sanction funds for the development of the fort.
The Bhongir Fort, located in Telangana's Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, was built in the 10th century by the Chalukya ruler Tribhuvanamalla Vikramaditya IV. Inscriptions that had been found at the fort, written in Kannada and Telugu, highlighted the lifestyle of the people of that time. Today, it is an important historical site, appreciated for its ornate and unique architecture.
