Police on Thursday took into custody 5 officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) for alleged negligence which led to the contamination of drinking water supplied to Bholakpur and Musheerabad. The water contamination had lead to 13 deaths and over 500 people falling ill in 2009.
According to information received, Chief General Manager Manohar Babu, General Manager Praveen Kumar, Deputy General Manager Rajasekhar Reddy, Area In-charge David Raj and Bholakpur In-charge Umamaheshwar Rao were booked under Sections 166, 270, 304-A.
The deaths were first reported on 5 May 2009, when the residents were hospitalised due to diarrhoea, caused by drinking contaminated water.
