Congress leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka today alleged that the Telangana government was responsible for the Covid-19 deaths in the state, and demanded that it immediately include Covid-19 in the list of diseases covered by the state-run Aarogysri healthcare scheme.
Speaking at a press conference, the leader also demanded that the TRS regime take steps to stock up on adequate amounts of medical oxygen, injections necessary for Covid-19 treatment, beds, and other treatment supplies in the hospitals of the state.
He then flayed the state government for "failing to provide sufficient facilities to handle the rising Covid-19 cases", and claimed that it had also failed to provide adequate stocks of oxygen, injections, beds and other critically important facilities to Telangana's government hospitals.
"The Covid-19 deaths in our state are the result of the TRS government's ineptitude. Its flawed policies and negligent attitude have led to the current crisis. It has failed to equip the healthcare sector to handle the pandemic," Vikramarka charged.
He also expressed his annoyance at Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for getting treated at a corporate hospital after the latter
tested positive some days ago, and added, "KCR himself went to Yashodha Hospital instead of visiting Gandhi Hospital which has been turned into a Covid-only facility. I wonder why the CM did this. Is he telling the public to visit private hospitals and spend huge amounts of money when they cannot afford to do so? Or is it because he knows exactly how lacking the facilities and infrastructure at government hospitals are? Many people are not visiting them as there is a serious lack of oxygen, beds and other services."
"While the public has been horribly affected, the KCR government remains a mute spectator. It should instead work to improve and increase healthcare facilities as this will help save and protect the people of the state," Vikramarka asserted.
