Deputy Mayor Jaffer Hussain on Saturday organised a meeting between Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation officials and the residents of Fatehnagar who will be displaced following the setting up of a new road from Begumpet to their locality.
Jaffer Hussain's initiative came after the residents refused to vacate their houses until the government assures them of alternate accommodation.
The GHMC has already stated that it will provide houses which are being constructed under the Jawahar Lal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission to these displaced families.
The residents, on the other hand, demand that a plot of land close to where they live should be given to them to build houses on. The GHMC, however, says that this particular land belongs to the Hyderabad Public School.
The Deputy Mayor directed GHMC officials to compensate the displaced families as per the prevailing market rate for the structures.
