Amalapuram MP Harsha Kumar, on Sunday, came down heavily on Congress Coordination Committee Chairman & Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for not giving Backward Classes proper representation in the committee.
Talking to media persons after meeting Azad at Gandhi Bhavan, Harsha Kumar said that injustice was done to BC leaders in the formation of the Coordination Committee, and that he would take up the issue with the Congress High Command soon.
He said that the committee was formed to reduce the gap between the party and government, but that it was not serving its purpose, due the to lack of proper representation of BCs.
He said that it would send a wrong message to the lower strata of people, who, he claimed, would distance themselves from the Congress soon.
Stating there was no need to give the Praja Rajyam Party prominence by inducting 2 ministers from the Kapu community, he said that he feared that the Dalit community would disassociate itself from the Congress with this move.
He asked Azad to explain why the Mala community was not given proper representation in the Cabinet, despite the fact that it had brought the Congress to power in the 2009 elections.
He also wondered why the Chief Minister did not fill up the ministerial berth that had fallen vacant after P Shankar Rao was sacked, with a member of the same community. He said the Congress party should not neglect the BC, SC and ST communities. (INN)
