Bathukamma, Bonalu May Be Included In Oxford Dictionary
The Oxford University Press has responded positively to the suggestion of Nizamabad MP K Kavitha to include the two Telangana culture words into the Oxford dictionary.
The Oxford University Press has responded positively to the suggestion of Telangana Jagruthi president and Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha to include two Telangana culture words - Bathukamma and Bonalu - into the Oxford English Dictionary (OED).
In November of last year, Kavitha had addressed a letter to the Oxford University Press to include the two words in the OED.
Responding to that, in a letter to the Telangana Jagruthi president, Penny, OED Revision Editor, stated that they were delighted to receive a great deal of evidence in support of the currency of these words in Indian English.
"As we are aiming at extending our coverage of World English in the OED, we are now considering these words for drafting," Penny wrote.
The MP expressed her happiness tweeting, "So happy to receive this letter from the Oxford English Dictionary acknowledging our request to include the words Bathukamma and Bonalu in the English dictionary. Two new nouns in the English language from the Telangana culture, sounds good."
