A B Tech student committed suicide by pouring kerosene and setting himself alight in the Osmania University campus early on Saturday morning.
According to reports received, the victim has been identified as Ishan Reddy, and was in his mid-twenties.
A suicide note recovered by the police from the student's room said that he had sacrificed his life to fulfill an oath he had taken before Goddess Maisamma.
Ishan Reddy had sworn that he would sacrifice his life to see that Pradesh Congress Committee chief D Srinivas is defeated from the Nizamabad Urban assembly constituency and prayed that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi sweeps the by-elections.
The suicide note further stated that he was sacrificing his life to fulfill his oath.
Ishan Reddy congratulated all the TRS leaders who won the by-polls and thanked the people for re-electing the leaders who had resigned in favour of Telangana.
Ishan Reddy hailed from Basatpur village in Medak district, and had completed his engineering from St. Ann's Institute Of Technology in Ibrahimpatnam. He was undertaking coaching for GRE and TOEFL.
His suicide note further said that he wished that his body to be taken out in a procession from the Arts College to the Martyrs Memorial at Gun Park.
On getting to know of the student's suicide, TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao and the 12 re-elected MLAs paid tributes to him.
The body of the student was handed over after autopsy.
Police granted permission for the funeral procession, in which KCR, Harish Rao BJP leaders Bandaru Dattatreya, Ch Vidyasagar Rao, Telangana JAC convener Kondandaram, and balladeer Gaddar also participated.
