Sunni Wakf Board Lawyer Effigy Burnt

Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) activists burn effigy of Sunni Wakf Board lawyer Jilani in Hyderabad post Ayodhya-Babri Verdict
Hyderabad | 1st October 2010
In violation of the Red Alert in place by the state police, activists of the Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) burnt an effigy of eminent lawyer Zafaryab Jilani on Friday evening at Azampura playground.

Jilani had represented the Sunni Wakf Board in the Babri Masjid title suit. The verdict of the title suit was delivered by the Allahabad High Court on Thursday. The suit filed by the Sunni Wakf Board was dismissed by the High Court.

According to sources, Jilani was being blamed for the verdict going against the interests of the Muslim community. Some people believe that Jilani had failed to argue the case properly, leading to the defeat.

The activists raised slogans against Jilani and then set the effigy on fire. The alleged MBT activists ran away from the spot within minutes of the protest, fearing the arrival of police on the scene.

By the time the Chadarghat police personnel managed to reach the spot and extinguish the remains of the effigy, the protest had left an impact on the onlookers.

The police dispersed the crowd which had gathered to witness the protest.

Meanwhile, the MBT joined the MIM and demanded that an inquiry be ordered against the Mecca Masjid superintendent and manager for the preponement of Friday prayers.

MBT Corporator Amjedullah Khalid also demanded that Minority Affairs Minister Ahmedullah Syed resign from his post over the issue.

Good work by Amjed Ullah Khan Khaled burning the effigy of Jilani. All Muslim leaders must protest against the Ayodhya Verdict.
