Auto Bandh From April 12 Midnight In Hyderabad
The city's auto drivers are battling technology, the future, and an entire city that hates them.
Hyderabad | 11th April 2016
Autos in the twin cities will go off the roads from April 12 midnight in response to the one-day auto bandh call given for April 13 in protest against the "conspiracy" of Ola and Uber to indirectly force the poor auto drivers to go out of the city, and demanding that the government immediately arrest the Ola and Uber managements for collecting less fares than autorickshaws illegally. Yes.
Mohd Amanullah Khan, B Venkatesham, V Kiran, M A Saleem, A Satti Reddy and Mohd. Habeeb, leaders of the JAC, in a joint press statement alleged that the ruling TRS had sold away the interests of the poor auto drivers in favour of Ola and Uber, and that that was the reason the State government was adopting a policy of silence in the matter.
They pointed out that the Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy had ordered the Transport Department to take stern action against the private buses carrying passengers illegally and thereby causing loss to the RTC, but that the same government was not taking action against Ola and Uber plying "illegally" by indulging in uneconomic competition and resulting in the deterioration of metered auto services violating section 67 of the MV Act.
The other demands of the auto drivers' JAC include the Chief Minister fulfilling his promise made to the auto drivers at the time of the 2014 Assembly Elections that the drivers would be issued Transport DLs and badges to drive autos without the 8th class pass condition, and that there would be no RTA or police harassment of auto drivers.
Finally, they appealed to the auto drivers in twin cities to participate in the proposed one-day bandh and make it a success.
