Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Sunday wrote a letter to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jaganmohan Reddy to skip the Kaleswaram inaugural function being organized by Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.
In his letter, Vikramarka said that the project was actually conceived by Jagan's father late Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, and was originally named the Pranahita Chevella lift irrigation project. He alleged that KCR had not only obstructed the project, but had also changed its name, and thus undermined both the project and YSR.
"The Telangana government hiked the project cost from Rs 38,000 crore to over Rs one lakh crore, and renamed it under the guise of redesigning it, and your presence at the inauguration will torture your father's soul," Vikramarka wrote in his letter, a copy of which he released to the media.
He also urged Jagan to ask KCR to set up a judicial commission in the same way that he (Jagan) proposed to set up one in his own State, to examine all tenders issued for various projects to uncover any wrongdoings.
Vikramarka said that typically the inauguration of an irrigation project involved beginning the supply of water to farmers. "However, in this case there is no evidence of anything like that happening. Not even 15% of the entire project works, beginning from Medigadda to the downstream Mallannasagar, have been completed. All this inauguration will do is to pump water from one reservoir to another," he said.
