Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy today unveiled a statue of N T Rama Rao, the legendary film actor and former Chief Minister of united Andhra Pradesh, at the Bahadurpally cross roads in the Quthbullapur Assembly constituency.
Speaking on the occasion, Reddy described N T Rama Rao as a "yugapurush", and said that the film actor and politician would be remembered forever.
Reddy said that he had entered politics with the blessings of Rao, and had learnt many things, including discipline, hard work and moral values in life, by closely observing the former Chief Minister.
"N T Rama Rao always used to say that politics was not a business, and that it meant public service. He created history by storming to power in 1983 in just nine months after forming the Telugu Desam Party. And after becoming the Chief Minister, he brought in revolutionary changes by introducing schemes like Rs 2 per kg rice, janata clothes, construction of permanent houses for the poor and a slab rate system for agriculture motor pumpsets," the Speaker said.
Reddy added that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was implementing the ideals of N T Rama Rao, and that Telangana State had been on progressive path for the last nine years due to that.
Local MLA K P Vivekananda and other leaders were present.
