Rajagopal Reddy Submits Resignation, Speaker Accepts In Seconds

Munugodu MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy met Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy today and submitted his resignation from his post.

The Speaker approved the resignation letter within minutes, paving the way for the holding of by-elections in the Munugodu Assembly constituency.

The resignation letter was submitted in the Speaker's format.

The office of the Speaker is likely to officially intimate the approval of the resignation of Reddy to the Election Commission of India today itself, and the by-elections are likely to be held along with the Assembly elections of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.

Earlier, Reddy paid tributes to the martyrs at the Gun Park martyrs' memorial. He then displayed his resignation letter to media persons. Speaking on the occasion, he alleged that the State was witnessing autocratic rule. He said that the Telangana society would tolerate hunger but not slights to its self-respect, and that he was sacrificing his MLA post for the Telangana society and the people of his Munugodu constituency, to protest against the KCR family rule. The time had come to teach a fitting lesson to KCR, he claimed.

He also exuded confidence that the Munugodu Assembly constituency would achieve development after his resignation, claining that the Chief Minister had already formed Gattuppal mandal in the wake of the news of his resignation.

He said that he would formally join the BJP in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the 21st of this month. The party is likely to announce Rajagopal Reddy as its candidate from Munugodu on the same day.
