Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar today extended financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to Komaramma, famed for her song Thoduga Ma Thodundi in the climax of the film Balagam.
A few days ago, Kumar attended an award ceremony in memory of Ponnam Sattayya, father of State Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar. During the event, he noticed the financial plight of Balagam's Komaramma and Mogili. He then pledged to donate Rs 1 lakh from his salary to support them.
As promised, Kumar today handed over a cheque for Rs 1 lakh to Komaramma at his official residence in the Minister's Quarters.
He was accompanied by Ponnam Ravichandra, the brother of Ponnam Prabhakar.
During the meeting, Komaramma requested help in securing a pension, and Kumar assured her that he would speak with the concerned minister, Jupally Krishna Rao, to help facilitate the process.
Expressing her gratitude, Komaramma thanked the Speaker for fulfilling his promise and said that the money would be used for better medical treatment for her husband Mogili.
