The State Road Transport Corporation plans to introduce a Vehicle Tracking & Passenger Information System in 12,185 buses, covering all major cities in AP.
Talking to media persons at Bus Bhavan in RTC Cross Roads, RTC Managing Director B Prasada Rao said that the Vehicle Tracking & Passenger Information System would receive information from buses through GPRS, and based on the software installed in the central server, the estimated time of arrival (ETA) of the bus would be displayed on the LCD.
He said that the ETA would be made available to commuters through Internet, SMS and RTC's call centre.
Apart from this, the ticket-machines with GSM/GPRS facility would be integrated into the project for online updation of details of tickets issued and of seat availability.
He said that this facility is being introduced for first time in major cities, covering 800 bus shelters in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati and Hyderabad.
Based on the response, the system would be extended across the state, he added. (INN)
