The Election Commission today announced the schedule for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, and the Telugu states will go in for polling in the very first phase.
The Election Commission today announced the schedule for the 2019 general elections. The eletions will take place in seven phases across the country, from April 11 to May 2019, and the polling in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana will happen on April 11 (including that for the Andhra Pradesh Assembly).
The election code has come into force across the country with the announcement.
The results of the election will be announced on May 23.
Along with elections for 542 of the 544 Lok Sabha seats, elections will also be held for the 175 MLA seats in AP, 147 MLA seats in Odisha, 60 MLA seats in Arunachal Pradesh and 32 MLA seats in Sikkim.
Polling will be held for 91 seats in 20 States in the first phase, 115 seats in 13 States in the second phase, 115 seats in 14 States in the third phase, 71 seats in nine States in the 4th phase, 51 seats in five States in the fifth phase, 59 seats in seven States in the sixth phase and 59 seats in the last phase.
The two Telugu States will go in for polling in the first phase.
10 lakh polling stations will be set up for the conduct of the elections, and 12 types of identity cards can be used by the people to cast their votes.
The Election Commission will release the notification on March 18. The scrutiny of nominations will happen on March 26, and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is March 28.
