Home minister P Sabitha Indra Reddy, on Sunday, stated that the government was making all efforts to address the problems being faced by constables working in the battalions of the Andhra Pradesh Special Police.
Talking to media persons, she said that the Home department would convene a meeting of all director-generals of APSP battalions on Monday, to address the problems of the lower-rung staff.
Stating that the department would resolve the issue within a week, she appealed to the wives (who staged a protest on Saturday, in Kondapur) of the constables to withdraw their agitation immediately.
She said that the government has taken note of the severity of the issue, and that it would take a decision on it after discussing it with the director-generals.
Sabitha Reddy said that the government would take a decision on granting leave to constables working in battalions, and that it might change the rules related to their working conditions.
Responding to allegations that Ramesh Naidu, commandant of the 8th Battalion, has been seeking bribes to sanction leave for constables, she said that the government would order an investigation into the issue and take serious action against officials if proved guilty. (INN)
