The state government reaffirmed that it is giving top priority to the completion of irrigation projects.
Major and Medium Irrigation Minister P Sudarshan Reddy, on Tuesday, stated that the government aims to complete 48 irrigation projects, this year, under the Jalayagnam program.
In a press statement following a review meeting on the progress of irrigation works with engineers at the state Secretariat, Sudarshan Reddy said that of 22 irrigation projects in the Telangana region, 15-16 projects will be completed by the end of 2012.
An estimated 10 out of 12 projects in coastal Andhra Pradesh, and 5-6 out of 12 projects from the Rayalaseema region, will be completed.
He said that the Finance Department has agreed to release Rs. 800-1000 crore, per month, for the speedy completion of projects.
The minister added that the Irrigation Department will also clear pending dues of Rs. 3,800 crore to contractors soon.
Further, he added that Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has been speaking to the Maharashtra government about the Pranahitha-Chevella project on the river Godavari.
He sought the cooperation of irrigation officials for the speedy completion of projects. (INN)
