AP Govt. Not Paralyzed: CM
Rosaiah appeals for peace, says that developmental activities have been disrupted.
Hyderabad | 17th December 2009
In his characteristically wry posturing, Rosaiah, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, has said that what the state is witnessing now is not a routine law-and-order situation. He has appealed to people to restore normalcy in the state and has requested the media to lead the way in this matter. Decisions can only be made when peace prevails, he said.
At a press conference in Hyderabad today, he criticized the flip-flops being made by political parties on the Telangana issue, and has compared the situation to the politics of yore, when each party had a firm stand on any issue.
Rosaiah has said that the riotous condition of the state has disrupted developmental activities being undertaken by the state government. The stoppage of transportation facilities across the state has led to rise in prices as well, he asserted. When asked whether the administration was also split over the idea of separate statehood for Telangana, he replied in the negative.
As for the violence being witnessed on political leaders undertaking fasts-to-death for a united Andhra, the CM said that there was no danger to peaceful protests, but in seemingly volatile cases, preventive action would be taken. He cited an example of what happened in Vijayawada – he said that in this instance when the demonstrators were taking shelter from the rain, the accompanying police had tagged along to provide security, but the former had forcibly shut doors on them, refusing to come out.
On questions regarding the stability of the state government at present, Rosaiah clarified that the government machinery has not been paralyzed, and that it is functioning.
