Congress party chief whip Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy, on Tuesday, said that the government was taking steps to provide fertilizers and seeds to farmers during the kharif season.
Talking to media persons at the Congress Legislature Party office, he said that the government has procured additional bags of fertilizers and seeds this year, in view of the shortage faced during the last kharif season.
Stating that farmers were demanding seeds of only popular brands, he requested them to try and look towards other seed companies as well.
"It is not possible to supply seeds from the same company across the state. Therefore, the government has asked the farmers to focus on other seed companies for starting tilling operations," he said.
Reiterating that the government was committed to the welfare of farmers, he said that it would honour all promises made to them, and also provide them free power supply for 7 hours. He admitted that the government had failed to supply 9 hours of free power, and attributed it to the shortage of gas in power stations. He added that the government was making all efforts to tide over the power crisis in the state.
MLA Ch Muthyam Reddy expressed concern over the sale of fake seeds in the market. Asking farmers to be cautious, he appealed to them not to buy seeds without bills and receipts. (INN)
