Former minister T Devender Goud accused the state government of neglecting the welfare of drought-hit farmers.
Addressing a dharna staged by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) outside the Ranga Reddy district collectorate on Monday, Goud charged that the government had failed to act on time to help farmers minimise the losses incurred due to drought.
He said that effective and timely action by the government would have enabled farmers to deal with the drought. He said that the government had failed not only to foresee the possible consequences of drought, but also to disseminate relief packages even after recognizing 865 mandals as drought-hit.
Devender Goud also slammed the Congress government for its failure to provide remunerative prices of produce to farmers, which he said forced hundreds of farmers to declare crop holidays.
He demanded that both the Central and state government provide immediate assistance to the affected farmers.
Several TDP activists were taken into police custody when they tried to barge into the collectorate. (INN)
