Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will be leaving for the national capital on Thursday to extend an invitation to President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India T S Thakur and Union ministers for the upcoming Krishna Pushkaralu in the State.
That, however, might only be a facade for another purpose - Naidu will reportedly discuss with Modi the issue of Special Status for Andhra Pradesh during the visit.
The issue has been in the eye of a storm recently due to plenty of furore by the Opposition in the ongoing Parliamentary session when a Private Bill was introduced by Congress MP K V P Ramachandra Rao to discuss it. The Centre is expected to release a special package for Andhra Pradesh (as part-compensation for the losses incurred by it post-bifurcation) as Union Minister Arun Jaitley had during the discussion in the Rajya Sabha dismissed any possibility of Special Status for the State as it supposedly did not meet the criteria set by the 14th Finance Commission for such status, and would need to do something to make up. Naidu is apparently going to take up the issue and at least maximize the package.
