A crucial meeting of Backward Class (BC) leaders, youth, legal professionals and activists was held at Kachiguda today, announcing the formation of the National BC Reservation Struggle Coordination Joint Action Committee (JAC) under the chairmanship of National BC Dal President Dundra Kumaraswamy.
Kumaraswamy, who was unanimously elected as the National Chairman of the new JAC, described the formation of the JAC as a historic step toward uniting BCs, MBCs, and nomadic and semi-nomadic communities across India for the cause of social justice and equality.
Condemning the High Court's stay on the Telangana government's GO No 9 which provided 42% reservation for BCs in local bodies, Kumaraswamy called it "an assault on the dignity and equal rights of BCs". He announced full support for the Telangana State Bandh proposed on October 18, and urged BCs, youth, women, professionals and workers to participate in the agitation.
He demanded that the Central government immediately introduce a Constitutional amendment to protect BC reservations by placing the BC Reservation Bill under Schedule IX of the Constitution. Failure to act, he warned, would trigger a historic nationwide movement.
Asserting that the struggle was not political, Kumaraswamy said, "This is a movement for social justice, equality and self-respect. The voices of the BCs must be heard - if the Centre remains indifferent, the cry of resistance will shake the nation."
BC Youth President Rubin Goud, along with legal experts, trade union leaders and representatives of various BC organizations, also participated in the meeting.
